Our Story

Create, Connect & Transform

The Social Hermit was born from the belief that creativity is a powerful force for healing, connection, and self-discovery.

Founded by Cheryl, an art therapist and community builder, our space was created as an antidote to isolation—a welcoming studio where people can come together to make art, share ideas, and support each other.

Inspired by the idea that art can act as both a personal refuge and a bridge to meaningful relationships, The Social Hermit provides a place where creativity flows freely, without judgment or pressure.

Whether you're here to explore your artistic side, find a sense of belonging, or simply take a breath from the chaos of everyday life, you are welcome. This is your space to create, connect, and grow.

Who we are:

Cheryl

With a background in community development, art therapy, and youth work, Cheryl brings over 12 years of experience and is the founder of The Social Hermit.

Holding two degrees in Community Development and Art therapy and a Certificate IV in Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts, she is deeply committed to making creative wellness accessible to those who need it most.

Cheryl is passionate about building a supportive and inclusive community where art serves as both a form of self-expression and a tool for social connection.

Recognising the barriers many Australians face in accessing mental health care, especially in Perth, she has created a space where people can come together, create, and heal—without the pressure of traditional therapy models.

Fariha

Fariha Rehman is a miniature painting artist from Pakistan with expertise in the intricate and traditional techniques of her craft.

A graduate in miniature painting from Lahore, she has also taught drawing and painting, sharing her knowledge and passion with students.

For the past three years, she has worked with individuals with disabilities, using art as a medium for expression, relaxation, and healing.

Fariha is now proud to call Perth home and believes in the cathartic power of creativity, helping people recharge, explore their artistic potential, and find joy through art.
